Exercise 1 of 4
Add NSW sales
In F4, use SUMIF to total NSW sales. Match the regions in B2:B5 and add the sales in D2:D5.
Intro to Excel / Lesson 2 of 3
Turn a mixed invoice list into a regional sales total.
Your scenario
You prepare the weekly sales update.
Your invoice list mixes sales from several regions. The NSW manager wants their total, not the total for the whole business. Build a summary that adds only the matching invoices and still works when another sale arrives.
Work through the briefWeekly invoices
| Invoice | Region | Sales |
|---|---|---|
| INV-101 | NSW | $120 |
| INV-102 | VIC | $80 |
| INV-103 | NSW | $180 |
| INV-104 | QLD | $0 |
B2:B5 means every cell from B2 through B5. Start a formula with =. Put literal text such as "NSW" in double quotes; use F2 without quotes to read that cell.
Put it into practice
Exercise 1 of 4
In F4, use SUMIF to total NSW sales. Match the regions in B2:B5 and add the sales in D2:D5.
Take it back to work
The added sale belongs to the selected region, so its amount must be included. The formula must cover that row to include it.
